Hamburg start-up brings brands to online platforms


Greven, 14 February 2020: Online trade is growing, and in particular sales via marketplaces such as Zalando, Amazon, Otto and Co. are increasing strongly. The Hamburg-based start-up Heyconnect brings brands and retailers to online platforms and supports them in using marketplaces as a permanent sales channel. The fulfilment service provider Fiege has now acquired a stake in the company.


“The importance of online marketplaces is increasing, as is the pressure on brands to be present there. Heyconnect is the perfect partner for us, as they are among the leading experts in the platform economy”, explains Fiege’s CEO Jens Fiege. “By investing in Heyconnect we are taking another step in our strategic orientation to become Europe’s leading provider in the field of omnichannel fulfilment. We connect brands and end customers via all sales channels”, continues Jens Fiege. Within a few weeks Heyconnect enables brands an uncomplicated entry into over 30 marketplaces in ten countries. “In the coming decade platforms will definitely become the most important player in e-commerce. We offer brands the services they need to make their business on platforms fit for the future”, explains Florian Curdt, Managing Director of Heyconnect. Together with Marcel Brindöpke he founded the company in Hamburg in 2012. In the meantime, Heyconnect looks after more than 150 brands from the fashion, living or cosmetics sectors: from the creation of content, technical connection and monthly invoicing to the fulfilment of orders.


“For brands the question is not whether they are active on platforms, but how. Over the years, we have built up a close relationship especially with large platforms such as Otto, Zalando and AboutYou. This enables us to react quickly to changing requirements and to place brands in the best possible way”, explains Marcel Brindöpke, CEO of Heyconnect, the biggest advantage his company offers. And the requirements of the marketplace operators are continuously increasing, always with the aim of further increasing customer satisfaction. “Especially the service quality in the area of fulfilment is decisive.


If end customers do not receive their goods on time or the returns process, including payment reversal, does not run satisfactorily, the platform operator will be punished immediately – accounts will be blocked faster than expected”, reports Florian Curdt.


Heyconnect currently operates three warehouses for its customers, which guarantee that the required high service quality is maintained. In addition, customers are connected via Heyconnect who themselves are responsible for the logistics. “This will not be changed by the entry of Fiege. However, we are extremely pleased that in Fiege we now have a partner who will enable us to scale up further through its core business in our strong growth”, says Marcel Brindöpke. And is pleased that with Fiege new customer groups are also coming into focus. “With Fiege and its positioning we also expect strong growth in new product ranges, new countries and on open platforms such as Amazon or Ebay. We can now also provide an even better offer on international marketplaces”.


In doing so, Fiege enables its customers to closely dovetail all distribution channels so that the end customer receives the goods with the same high service quality, regardless of whether they were purchased in the branch, via the retailer’s webshop, an app or an online marketplace.
